Job Description

Shelby Electric Cooperative (SEC) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Journeyman Lineman. Shelby Electric Cooperative is headquartered in Central Illinois with 2,196 miles of line and approximately 9,938 meters. We are located near beautiful Lake Shelbyville – an 11,100 acre lake with 172 miles of shoreline, with easy access to beaches, The General Dacey Trail, the Kaskaskia River and many outdoor activities, including hunting and fishing. The community offers great schools, shopping in our historic downtown district, and has seen tremendous growth in recent years.
Individuals at this level are expected to be competent within the trade and able to perform the skilled work required in connection with the construction, maintenance and operation of the transmission, overhead and underground distribution lines, protective equipment, substations and related equipment.
Essential job functions include:
1. Set a positive example of safe practices for others.
2. Safely installing, removing, inspecting, and maintaining both overhead and underground lines and equipment.
3. Perform switching operations on energized and de-energized lines and equipment.
4. Must be able to work independently, or with others, to systematically perform all duties associated with troubleshooting lines and equipment to restore electric service and operations of equipment.
5. Operate construction equipment such as line truck, bucket truck, trenchers, and other equipment.

Minimum qualifications:
1. High School Diploma/GED required
2. Have a valid Illinois Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Class A and Air Brake endorsements
3. 3 – 5 years of experience as a Journeyman preferred

Other qualifications:
1. Must be willing and able to work extra and/or irregular hours as the needs of the job may require.
2. Must observe all safety rules and regulations adopted by SEC.
3. Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately for work and safety compliance in a hot line work environment.
4. Must have the ability to read and interpret maps and staking sheets.
5. Must be able to daily walk, stoop, bend, lift up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis, occasionally lift in excess of 50 lbs., climb, kneel, reach, crawl, push, pull, and work in awkward positions and
