Job Description

Experienced Power Journeymen Linemen


Operating and maintaining existing power transmission and distribution system with voltages from 13.8 kV to 69 kV. Maintenance experience is highly desirable. This is a temporary assignment with four weeks guaranteed.

$4,500 – $6,300 Weekly DOE

• Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
• Must have a current and valid driver’s license
• Routinely climb up and down stairs/ladders,
• Work at heights to meet work requirements,
• Lift, carry, push or drag hoses and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Willing and able to deal with extremes of heat and cold, dust and fumes
• Use Fall Protection & Personal Safety Equipment without exceeding a combined weight of 310 lbs.
• Willing and able to work in a variety of postures and positions throughout the work period to include kneeling, squatting, bending, prone or supine positions
• Willing and able to independently transition to and from the ground without the aid of a stationary object for support and sustain prolonged periods of standing, walking and crawling on steel grating, steel plates, ice, snow, gravel and mud
• Must be a graduate of a two-year accredited trade school in the lineman discipline with 2080 hours or more lineman related “on the job” experience and be able to obtain a State of Alaska certificate of fitness as a journeyman lineman, or:
• Must possess a current lineman journeyman license and be able to obtain a State of Alaska certificate of fitness as a journeyman lineman
• Must possess or be able to obtain a commercial driver’s license within six months
• Must be able to operate heavy equipment used in the electrical utility industry
• Must have experience with belt and hook pole climbing
• Must have previous medium voltage experience
• Must have previous transmission or distribution experience
• Must have experience working from aerial equipment
• Must have a thorough knowledge of the NESC and an understanding of the NEC
• Must be able to read and clearly understand electrical drawings, diagrams and schematics for all medium voltage line and substation equipment
• Must have technical knowledge of medium voltage equipment, line work, substation equipment and apparatuses

Work is located on the North Slope of Alaska above the Arctic Circle and remote. Arctic conditions can result in substantial wind and snow, and as low as -50°F ambient. Work will be on a rotational basis all travel, housing and meals will be covered.
